Rev 9:11 And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit.
The discussion is who is this star that had fallen.? Is it a Angel or a Fallen Angel or Satan.?
So lets get started.

I think this highlighted part of the verse gives a clue as to who this is. (Notice it's fallen not falling )
Unlike the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th Trumpet ,Johns wording makes it seem like he is seeing it happen .Of course Rev 4:1-2 John is in the throne room being shown what must take place so he actually see's what must take place.
Rev 4:1-2 After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this."At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne.
What I believe is different about this verse is that its in the past tense ,"the star
fallen" this star fell already. He didn't see it falling because it already fell. I know I'm being redundant but I think its important to see that John didn't see the star fall.
NIV Rev 9:1 The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that
had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss.So who is the fallen star???????I'm leaning towards Lucifer.
Luke 10:18 And he
(Jesus) said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. (Italics mine)
Jesus Refers to Satan as fallen from heaven when the 72 return
Isa 14:12-14 How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low!You said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north;I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.'
This section starts as a taunt against the King of Babylon Then is referring to Satan verse 12 and following. then goes back to the King of Babylon.
NKJ reads
"How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!
| Rev 9:11 | They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon. Abbadon means destruction and Appolyon means destroyer .Now this could just simply be a fallen angel that's over the abyss not necessarily Satan . so not really a good verse.
Angels can and are referred to as stars ,but I have not found any scripture reference to a good angel as a fallen star ,just Lucifer.
How about this are these keys real keys or are they symbolism ?
I believe they are symbolism. .A symbol of authority given.
Isa 22:19 I will thrust you from your office, and you will be pulled down from your station. 20 In that day I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, 21 and I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your sash on him, and will commit your authority to his hand. And he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. 22 And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. Eliakim was given authority and with that authority he was given some keys (actual keys ) to open and close doors as he see fit.and no one could close it when he opened it or open it when he closed it, that authority was given to him
Matt 16: 14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." 20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ
Peter was given authority he was given the keys to the kingdom of heaven. keys here are symbolic for authority. (Side note there will be a latter discussion about Peter and the rock issue)
Rev 1:17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18 and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. | |

Christ has the keys over death and Hades ,keys are symbolic for authority,Christ has the Authority over death and Hades, so he can give the keys or authority to whomever he pleases. Just like God told Satan that he can do as he wishes with Job but he could not take his life ,Satan was given authority over Job,in Rev 9:1 Satan is given authority to release those demons who are locked up in the abyss.This authority comes from God so we know God is in control here.
Rev 20:1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. 2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, This angel I would say is a good angle ,he is given keys to lock up Satan or authority to do so . If it's Satan or some random fallen angel or a good angel one thing is for sure demonic activity will increase like the earth has never seen before. I feel its Satan who gets the keys or authority to the abyss. Please leave comments with references |
