Strong’s Definitions [?](Strong’s
Definitions Legend)
βαπτίζω baptízō, bap-tid'-zo;
from a derivative of G911; to immerse,
submerge; to make whelmed (i.e. fully wet); used only (in the New
Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of
Christian baptism:—Baptist, baptize, wash.
The Hebrew
names version of Matt 3:11 I indeed immerse
(baptize)you in water for(because of) repentance, but he who comes
after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will
immerse you in the Ruach HaKodesh.( Holy Spirit)
Side thought: If baptism means to
apply ,then when your baptized in the Holy Spirit then is the Holy Spirit only
being applied and you’re not immersed in the Holy Spirit.
Baptize does not in any place mean
“apply”( looked in several translations and I can’t find any that say apply) it
can mean wash as in your hands or pots, or anything else that is washed .When
it comes to Christian baptism the word is submerge, immerse, to get fully wet. Some organizations baptize
by sprinkling. There are also places were water is not very abundant so they
sprinkle in those locations. If your
baptized by sprinkling or submersion
isn’t the real issue as long as the reason ,(that is faith in Christ) is
as to why your baptized. Not into a particular denomination or in order to
receive salvation. Baptism does not save you belief in the Lord Jesus saves you.
Act 16:31 And they said, “Believe in the
Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Rom 10:9 because, if you confess
with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised
him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:13 For “everyone who
calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Notice none of these verses say “and baptized”
it’s belief that saves.
Baptism represents, death, buried
and resurrection. Just like Christ.
Romans 6:3-4 makes that perfectly clear.
3 Do you not know that all of us who have
been baptized into Christ Jesus were
baptized into his death? 4 We were buried
( completely covered)therefore
with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead(raised up out of the water) by the glory of the Father, we
too might walk in newness of life.
(THN) 3 Or don't you know that all
we who were immersed into Messiah Yeshua were immersed into his
death? 4 We were buried therefore with him through immersion to death,
that just like Messiah was raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
Colossians2:12 supports this thought: 12
having been buried with him in baptism,
in which you were also raised with him
through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.
Baptism by
immersion is a more accurate picture of death, buried, and resurrection.
Sprinkling doesn’t truly represent that picture.
