Peters not the Rock
Christ is the cornerstone in whom the church is built off of (not Peter) I say that because there are some who say that the church was built on Peter because of the following verse Matt 16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. :Peter's name is Petros in the greek it means rock or stone that is a small rock one you might throw and the word rock in the verse in greek is petra it means a large rock or large stone. It is a common thought that when Jesus said “on this rock I will build my church “ it is believed by most Evangelical Christians Christ was referring to the solidness of Peter’s statement verse 16 "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Christ also said that the gates of hell would not prevail against it .In Just a few verses later in the very same chapter Christ said to Peter “23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man." Why would Jesus say he is going to build his church on Peter then turn around and say to get behind him satan ,calling Peter satan and that his mind was set on things of man and not God.So is that the person the Church is built on NO! In Matt 26:33-34 Jesus foretells the denial of him by Peter and also in Matt 26 :69-75 Peter carries out that denial. So is the church built on a muire man a petros(Peter) a little rock a throwing rock or on a petra(the confession about Jesus Christ) a large stone that stone being Jesus the Christ,he is true ,square and solid. Like the man who built his house on the sand and the storms of life came along ,the house fell apart or his life fell apart . The man who built his house on solid foundation ,that is his life is in Christ the solid foundation ,when life storms come along ,his life doesn’t fall apart he is solid because his foundation is solid . His life is built on Christ and what Christ has done for him and not on his own deed or works. Matt 7:24-27
