Christ the living water

Christ the living water

I would like to take a look at a verse that relates back to the Old Testament from the New Testament
1 Cor 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
This Rock is capitalized  it is a representation of Christ. A type of Christ .The   repetition of the word “spiritual” before “drink” and “rock” reminds the reader that it is the spiritual and not the historic aspect of the fact which is present to   Paul’s mind. The traditional account of the Rock was a more complete illustration of the abiding presence of God, which was the point that the Apostle here desires to bring forward. What's the rock give ? WATER . Without water we die . The Rock was a source of living water .Christ gives us our source of living water. Their source of water in the wilderness was life sustaining ,Ours, that is as Christians living water that is from Christ is life sustaining also ,with one major difference . For the Hebrews in the wilderness the water was for life in the here and now ,ours is for life eternal.

Jeremiah 2: 13 for my people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken me,(That is God)
the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns( That is False Idols) that can hold no water.
Two thing happen here .One the people turn away from God the sustain er of life the fountain of living water There are two aspects to this living water of God in the wilderness it was life sustaining as mentioned above and also spiritual They create their own cisterns that is false gods . Those false gods were useless.
They are not the sustainers of life. You might even say the false gods /idols are sustainers of death ,unless they( the Hebrews ) turn to the true God
Going to our worldly things ,our false gods ,they can only give us a here and know satisfaction , were as God gives us an eternal satisfaction

Living water from Christ
John 4
10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.  The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”
Of course the living water being spoken of is a spiritual water Probably refers to the Holy Spirit. ,our trust in Christ, and the Holy Spirit living in us we live even when things seem dire..
Never be thirsty again ,is referring to a person's deepest desire to know God personally, will be satisfied. Just an additional thought on the satisfaction to know God . The Holy Spirit through His dwelling making His home in us ,He encourages us to seek God through the Word of God . As we grow in our understanding and  of the Word and what God desires for our life  our desire to know God deeper continues to grow ,I think being satisfied to know God deeper is good for the point in our growth towards maturity.Whether we are an infant in Christ our a child in Christ our satisfaction to know God is satisfied through the living water that is the Holy Spirit.  We are encouraged through the Holy Spirit to continue to GROW. Many  in the church today need to stop sipping the living  water and take a gulp.
Soap Box:Looking at stats on those who say they are Christians and believe the Bible is the Word of God and a guide for how to live righteous and holy lives ,a  very small percentage ,less than a ⅓ read the bible at least 4 times a week and less than that think of how it can apply to their life. The biggest reason seems to be TIME . They don’t have enough time to read the bible God's word on how to live a holy and righteous life. Time really !
How much time is spent on playing games on line or being on facebook and watching the TV .I don’t think it's a time issue as much as a priority issue. I’m no expert on time management nor do I always keep my priorities right all the time. I most certainly don't just give up.  Just think what it would be like if Christ said I don’t have any time for you.
THINK ABOUT THAT.
Off the soapbox and onto Isaiah
Isaiah 12 :3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. 4 And you will say                in that day:“Give thanks to the Lord,    call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples,    proclaim that his name is exalted.
Wells of salvation is a endless supply of the spiritual water  that is the Holy Spirit that comes through our faith in Christ as our redeemer ,foundation ,or cornerstone ,our capstone ,our Rock ,from him flows the living water , because of what he did on the cross  for us we have the opportunity to draw on the living water for strength and peace the living water is no other than the 3rd person of the trinity the Holy Spirit..
Further scripture identifying the spirit as the living water.
Jesus is in the temple surrounded by a throng of worshipers. He suddenly cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scriptures said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:37–39, )

Here Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the living water. External influence of the Spirit had always been given in the conversion and sanctification of the Old Testament saints and prophets, but the gift of the Spirit who would indwell believers had not yet been received (Acts 10:44–45). So, though many people say that Jesus is the living water, Jesus Himself intended the phrase to mean the Holy Spirit who dwells in believers and seals them for salvation (Ephesians 1:13–14). It is the ministry of the Spirit, flowing out of a heart redeemed by God, that blesses believers and, through them, brings life and light to the world.
God is called the living water,Christ is called the living water and the Holy Spirit is called the living water .What does this show? ,it's showing me that God the father ,God the son ,and God the Holy Spirit ( The Trinity) all work together to provide us with the spiritual  life sustaining water .
Gods water to us was his only begotten son, whose death on the cross was his life being poured out for us so we could reconnect to God thru our spirit and our lives,Upon Christ's return to heaven he sent us the Holy Spirit to make its home within us to continue to encourage and guide us in  our relationship with Christ thru the tipping of that glass that is the God's Word and taking a drink
May I encourage you today to start drinking the Word daily .Make it a habit . You will be bless .
