Just as I am
Inspired by the song “Just as I am “
Have you ever heard someone say” I've done too many bad things for God to want me”
All though some may think this ,it's not biblical. There is the unpardonable sin,and if you have committed it you wouldn’t be concerned that you have done too many bad things for Christ to want you. So I’m not going to discuss the unpardonable sin.
Christ never said all can come to me with the exception of those who have committed murder, sexual assault, theft ,unjust anger,or any other thing that might be sinful in nature. We are born with a sinful nature ,to sin before we come to Christ was as natural as needing to go the bathroom.
When we come to Christ that all changes ,we become a new creation ,our nature changes,to one being developed thru knowledge into the image of the creator Christ.
Colossians 3:5,8-10
5a Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self (old nature) with its practices 10 and have put on the new self,(new nature) which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. NIV
The list of transgressions is not all inclusive,It does cover a wide range of sins.
None of them keep you from coming to Christ .We are told to take off our old self ,old nature ,earthly nature .That is like removing dirty clothes and to put on the new self ,new nature being transformed into the image of our creator Christ.
That is putting on new clothes clean clothes . You are to rid yourself of the things mentioned that is sin. That is done thru repentance ,turning to a new direction ,that includes God and accepting the redemption that Christ did on the cross, paying the penalty for all our sins .Redemption means the sin contract was bought out paid in full.Freed from a requirement to sin to be satisfied. As I mentioned above we are a new creation 2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
It's not your physical body but who you are your nature, your nature is crucified ,put to death, you are no longer ruled by sin ,that rule has been broken and you are free not to sin. Romans 6:For we know that our old ,self old nature was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—
7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
When does Christ say you have been to bad for me to redeem you? NEVER !
On the contrary he said come all who are weary and burden laden.
Matt 11:28 Come to me, all who labor ( weary)and are heavy laden (heavy burdens), and I will give you rest.
I don’t want to give the wrong idea here you will still be tempted to sin, life's problem will still be there ,you still have to deal with the consequences of your actions. There is hope though because of you accepting the redeeming work of Christ, you have a helper ,the Holy Spirit who dwells in you. That is he makes his residence in you ,with his guidance you will learn to deal with life's issues ,refrain from sin ,and start looking forward to the final goal life eternal.
1 Peter 2:24
24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Healed of our transgression , that is your sins
To give my final thoughts .All can come to Christ, you have not been excluded because of your sin. Reach out and receive the redemption that has been made available to all who choose to believe and receive.
